War comes to America....

War has come to America and it is in the shape of US military troops sent to US cities to attack and beat down any dissent shown by citizens to any of Trump's actions. It is absolutely terrifying to watch the GOP assert military control in US cities. 

Pete Hegseth, whose own mother calls "an abuser," recently called all generals in the US military to Quantico so he could peacock on stage in front of them and brag about how his war fighters were no longer going to be fat and out of shape. 
"It’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon and leading commands around the country and the world. It’s a bad look. It’s not who we are," [Hegseth] said to a room full of generals. 

Trump has declared that the Department of Defense is now the Department of War - to hell with the fact that changing the name of a department requires congressional approval. He is a dictator and what he says goes. (My question – how much does it cost to change all the signs and stationary and name tags and buildings to reflect this change? No one seems to know.) 

At Hegseth's unusual meeting of all US generals, Trump, never wanting to be left out of the spotlight, also took to the stage and in a very long and rambling speech lasting more than an hour, he made all sorts of claims, including the claim that the military was now going to use US cities as training grounds for our troops. 

"And I told Pete, we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military National Guard, but military, because we're going into Chicago very soon. That's a big city, with an incompetent governor, stupid governor, stupid."

And just this week, we've seen what that means in Chicago. In words attributed to Anne Frank:

"Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

THIS is happening in America today. Chicago has been the test run on how to use an American city to train US troops– just the other night – in the middle of the night when people were sleeping – military troops rappelled from helicopters into an apartment building in search of Tren de Agagua gang members. 

The building in Chicago invaded by US military was also vandalized by the US military – windows and doors broken – personal items destroyed or stolen – as they removed all inhabitants in the middle of the night - zip-tying all residents and sending them outside to the street - women, children, the elderly - in search of gang members.

A Kristi Noem spox claims they arrested TWO gang members as a result of that grotesquely anti-constitutional act of terrorizing ALL residents in an apartment building in the middle of the night. She has provided no evidence of any crimes committed by any residents of that building.
It is illegal to arrest people based on how they look and it is illegal to invade an entire building in the middle of the night – forcing ALL residents to be zip-tied and moved into the streets in the middle of the night – in search of two gang members. No evidence has been provided outside of the administration's claims that any Tren d Aragua gang members actually live there.
They want Americans to be attacked and blown up like the boats in they are blowing up international waters. DO not allow them the grace to think that any of this is remotely okay. None of it is okay. Terrorizing Americans because you want a dicatorship is never okay.

Niall Ferguson: the Ann Coulter of Harvard

Niall Ferguson has a post in the Daily Beast in which he lambasts the Occupy Wall Streeters for blaming "big business" for our ills, rather than the real culprits, which (in his mind) are the Baby Boomers. For Ferguson, a Harvard professor, it's easier to point a finger at a generation, rather than at the highly compensated Ivy League grads on Wall Street, whose fiscally unsound business practices dragged our economy into a sewer. Here's Ferguson, on the protestors: "Yet if I were a young American today, occupying Wall St. would not be my objective. Just reflect for a minute on the unbridled economic mayhem that would ensue if the protesters actually succeeded. The headline “Goldman Sachs Under Control of Hip Teenage Revolutionaries” would be the last straw for an already fragile economic recovery." "Good-bye to all that..."

Harry Patch died last week in England. It was the expected outcome for a man of 111. But it is a notable death because with Harry Patch goes the last living memory of trench warfare experienced nearly a century ago during The Great War - known now as World War 1. This story on CNN.com is a wonderful summary of Patch's life. He was a plumber before and after his stint in the trenches. He saw some of the worst warfare man has ever experienced: "He fought and was seriously wounded in Ypres, Belgium, in 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele, in which 70,000 of his fellow soldiers died -- including three of his close friends."
